Devotion.

But devotion isn’t a discipline — it’s a fuel. The Bible is clear: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23). Your leadership at home, your work, your legacy — all of it flows from what’s happening in your heart.

This is why Jesus named love as the greatest commandment. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37). That love — devotion to God — is the anchor of the mission. Without it, dominion becomes selfish ambition dressed up in godly language. Discipleship becomes a checklist. The whole thing drifts.

A Father on Mission doesn’t just spend time with God. He is oriented toward God — bringing Him the real questions, pausing long enough to listen, and leading his family from God’s heart instead of his own anxiety and ambition.

That’s the first pillar. And it changes everything downstream.

Most men treat devotion like a task to check off. Read the Bible. Pray the list. Move on.

Devotion doesn’t have to be complicated. It has to be consistent. Here’s where to start:

Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

This is not a discipline — it is your motivation. Your fuel. The reason you get up before the sun and open your Bible and get on your knees. That you may know Him, love Him, serve Him, obey Him, please Him, and be with Him. God is not a means to a better life or a stronger family. He is the start and the end of the mission. Everything else on this list flows from here.

In Practice

Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

This is not a discipline — it is your motivation. Your fuel. The reason you get up before the sun and open your Bible and get on your knees. That you may know Him, love Him, serve Him, obey Him, please Him, and be with Him. God is not a means to a better life or a stronger family. He is the start and the end of the mission. Everything else on this list flows from here.

01

Schedule it and protect it.

Treat your time with the Lord like your most important meeting of the day — because it is. Put it on the calendar. Honor the commitment. Everything else flows from what happens in this hour.

02

Get the Word inside you.

Don’t wing it. Set up a Bible reading plan and follow it. Consistency over intensity. A chapter a day beats a marathon session once a week every time.

03

Develop a prayer strategy.

Prayer is not a formality — it is an almighty weapon in the hands of a man on mission. God is behind it, which means nothing you bring to Him is wasted. Don’t squander the opportunity to bring the full weight of your life before the Creator of the Universe. Structure your prayer life so it doesn’t collapse under the busyness of the day.

04

Ask and then listen.

This is where most men stop short. Bring God the real question — What do you want me to know right now? What are you trying to show me? — and then pause long enough to hear the answer. Devotion is not a monologue. It’s a conversation. Get to know His heart, and let that be what you lead from.

Bridge to Dominion

A man who is devoted to God doesn’t stay on his knees forever. He gets up. He goes to work. He builds something. Devotion without dominion is incomplete — it’s fuel with nowhere to go. That’s where the second pillar comes in.
