Most Christian men have been taught — subtly, unintentionally — that business is a distraction from ministry. That work is a necessary evil. That the really spiritual guys are the pastors and missionaries, and everyone else is just funding the real mission.
That belief is a lie. And it has quietly robbed too many families of a father who takes his dominion seriously.
From the very beginning, God’s mandate was clear: “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion.” (Genesis 1:28). That mandate didn’t expire. Your work, your business, your household — these are not distractions from God’s mission. They are the mission.
Dominion is not selfish ambition. It’s not the prosperity gospel dressed up in Genesis language. It’s faithful stewardship of everything God has placed in your hands — your family, your home, your business, your neighborhood — in His name and for His glory. As Colossians 3:17 puts it: “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
A Father on Mission doesn’t compartmentalize. He rules his home before he rules anywhere else. He builds his business as an act of worship. He brings order where there is chaos, and flourishing where there is neglect.
The question isn’t whether God has given you a domain to rule. He has. The question is whether you’re ruling it — or letting it rule you.
Before you conquer a market, conquer your household. Personal finances. A well-maintained home. Orderly routines. Equipment that works because you take care of it. Most men are waiting for their one big opportunity, but Father on a Mission are busy being faithful with what’s already in their hands. That faithfulness is what qualifies you for more.
You are not just “a father.” You are a husband, a father, a business owner, a neighbor, a community member. Each of those is a distinct domain God has entrusted to you. Name them. Write them down. Evaluate honestly how you are stewarding each one. You cannot rule what you haven’t clearly defined.
